Tres Fronteras Iguazú

Yesterday, we enlisted Emiliano for another day to be our guide and driver. He’s super friendly, we’ve become really comfortable with him so hiring him to show us around the area has been well worth it.
We had been anticipating torrential rains for yesterday as the forecast called for 100% chance with an accumulation of 60mm throughout the day. We haven’t seen a report of exactly how much actually came down, but it was an incredible amount! Regardless we were able to borrow some ponchos from the apartment and carry on with our plan to visit the ‘Tres Fronteras’ - the sight where the three countries, Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay share a mutual border. Jim has been talking about seeing this for a long time, we couldn’t miss it because of the rain! The actual spot is where two major rivers (Paraná and Iguazú) converge, each country has a landmark and park overlooking the rivers, from each you can see the other two countries. Our mission was to go to each country and view the others. From Puerto Iguazú (Argentina) we took a small ferry across the Paraná River to Ciudad del Este (Paraguay) and then on to Foz Iguazú (Brazil). The border crossings were easy - we were with a private driver who knew how to navigate the long lineups (and seemed to know the right officials!).
Just inside Paraguay we stopped at a magnificent waterfall - Saltos Monday. This is definitely the region for incredible waterfalls. It was raining really hard at that point so we basically had the park to ourselves. We appreciated they didn’t close the access, but could see at any time they may have.
Looking at our map once we got back to our apartment we could see the route we followed took us in a big wide circle.
Today (Saturday) has been a ‘travel’ day, as opposed to an ‘excursion’ day. We flew from Puerto Iguazú back to Buenos Aires where we connected to our flight north west to ‘Salta’ (still in Argentina 🇦🇷). Having arrived here in the evening there hasn’t been time to get ourselves oriented - that’s for tomorrow!
