Morning came to us early today, our driver was at the door by 3:30am ready to take us to Copan Ruinas, Honduras. Copan has one of the most important Mayan archaeological sites, not far from the Guatemala border, a 7 hour drive. We arrived safely, but there were a few white knuckle moments while passing the many transport trucks - we definitely had to have faith in our driver’s ability!

Yesterday was incredibly peaceful in comparison. We struck off to explore in a completely different direction than we’d been before. Jim found a path on his trusty Gaia map that took us high above the city (Antigua). It turned out to be an amazing art centre showcasing some of the most prominent Guatemalan artists (painters and sculptors). What an amazing place to discover, no crowds, no admission fees!

View out over the countryside from our room - shoes off!
Stairway up to the street where we’re staying, lots of climbing here in Copan Ruinas!
Time to relax - always on the look out for a good beer or glass of wine!
We had to stop and find Jim a long sleeve shirt as the sun was super intense- we came across this secondhand clothing stall just at the right time!
Looking out over the countryside we can only imagine the undiscovered ruins that possibly surround the city and yet undiscovered!
Copan Ruinas is a hilly city with cobblestone streets, this guy is working hard to get up the hill…
Our driver, Carlos, waiting for us with another fellow passenger outside the border control office
The fee for entry was only $3.00
Inside the immigration/border office entering Honduras- no hassles at all!
Remembering Jim’s 1963 VW bug, only his was light green with a sunroof…
