Our day started early on Saturday as the drive ahead into the Tarangire Park would be long. The park is known for its elephant families, giraffes, hartebeest antelope and many more. These are all closely followed by a range of predators, including lions and leopards. It turned out to be a day full of surprises as we saw an incredible variety of animals and birds. The parks were established to protect the wildlife and environment. A guide is required to accompany visitors and the entry fees help pay for the continued conservation. We had a very full day of driving along windy rough roads intently watching out for whatever we could see! Clause has proven to be very knowledgeable about the wildlife, the area and its history. By day’s end we were all pretty exhausted and headed to the lodge where we spent last night.
We have agreed to begin our ‘game drives’ at seven each morning, so again this morning we had an early start. We should have better success seeing animals being active by starting early, before the heat quietens all their activity. Today we spent the day in the area situated in the Ngorongoro conservation area, part of the southern Serengeti ecosystem. Another stellar day of seeing an abundance of local wildlife. A particular highlight was seeing herds of wildebeests on their migration path at calving time. After an extensive drive we made our way to our accommodation for tonight and tomorrow in a ‘tented’ lodge - very fun ‘glamping’!

This young lion isn’t tame by any means, he’s just not afraid of the vehicles bringing tourists into the park - everyone must stay in their vehicles.

This guy wasn’t in the least worried or interested in us, just needed a cool place to nap…
