Where the path takes us!

On our way to Tanzania… first stop is Dubai

We finally decided it was time to visit our friend, Emmanuel, in his home country of Tanzania (after much discussion over the past couple of years!). Thinking if we left it any longer we might decide it’s too much of a stretch and too challenging to experience a place so unfamiliar. ‘Let’s go before we lose the momentum’, is what we told ourselves. So here we are - in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates on a stopover for a few days to catch our breath, get over the fatigue of too many hours of flying and experience this very modern city. We flew from Vancouver to London Sunday night, then on to Dubai. With the time difference we ‘advanced’ twelve hours (not lost…!), so today being Wednesday means we’ll fly on from here tomorrow to Arusha, Tanzania.
Dubai, to say the least, is an amazing city, the architecture is phenomenal, many examples seeming to defy gravity! We spent our short day and half visit riding on the extensive metro system exploring as much of the city as we had energy to… Tomorrow will be a ‘travel’ day, filled with all that goes along with leaving one country, the excitement of arriving in another!

Here are some photos from the past few days…

Such futuristic images throughout the city

This crazy building is an hotel called Atlantis the Royal

Now, this I borrowed from the internet - the man built archipelago of artificial islands called the Palm Jumeirah, created using land reclamation, in the image of a palm tree. This is situated on Dubai’s coastline with an incredible amount of residences on the ‘fronds’!

Another strikingly amazing view…
Jim, having just walked across the glass walkway - surprisingly scary!

Beautiful structures every which way we turn!
The Burj Khalifa - tallest building in the world - 830 metres

Anticipating the metro train expected any minute now!
