Iguazú Falls - Brazil and Argentina share the glory…
Yesterday, Wednesday we were picked up early by Emiliano, who we’d coordinated with to be our driver for a few days. Our destination was the Brazilian side of the Iguazú Falls National Park. Today, we stayed on this side of the river and spent the day exploring the Argentine side. The Iguazú Falls are the world’s largest waterfall system. Most of the falls and park land are in Argentina (approximately 80% of the 275 falls) but the panoramic views are seen best from Brazil. We can now concur!
We arrive at the park entrance in Brazil…
Our first view of the falls - looking toward Argentina from the Brazilian side.
So lucky to have blue sky and no wind…
The walkways were well maintained and we felt secure!
Walking out to the furthermost viewing platform
At the top of one of the falls as it plunges over the edge
Entrance to an old iconic hotel in the Brazilian park with the perfect vantage point of the falls…
We found only one trail that took us away from the popular beaten track on the Brazilian side.
Beginning our walk exploring the Argentine side of the river. It has a more natural feel with many more trails than the Brazilian side.
One of several warning signs…!
The park on the Argentine side has a small train system for shuttling people between some of the viewing spots
The trails are compromised mostly of steel mesh boardwalks above the rushing water, pretty exhilarating!
The sound of the water passing underneath is deafening. We just passed over the bridge crossing the narrow gorge.
Such elegance!
The individual falls all have been given names of various people associated with the park, its conservation and exploration…
….
Such power…
As we were leaving the park we stopped this ‘coati snatch a sandwich from a picnic table where an unsuspecting little girl had just turned her head to look at a monkey also eyeing her treat! They are pesky creatures, not dangerous, just very bold…
