Where the path takes us!

Guatemala, Belize, Mexico…

Yesterday we arranged for a guide to take us to the Maya site of Xunantunich, just across the border into Belize. It was a full day there and back to Flores, but well worth it. The site isn’t as large as some we’ve seen but our guide had spent many years working on the excavations and gave a really detailed explanation of what we were seeing.
This morning we left Flores, Guatemala and travelled most of day (in another ‘colectivo’) to Palenque, Mexico. It’s a long way, passing through many different landscapes - a really beautiful drive. We arrived in Palenque with just enough time before it got dark to get slightly oriented. It’s bigger than I expected and is known as the gateway to the Mayan ruins nearby with the same name. Tomorrow we’ll take a bus out to the archaeological park.
