Aspen’s 50th birthday weekend!

What fun! 🎉Celebrating any birthday is an occasion, but there are a few more exceptional than others - like 50!
The weekend began with supper at Aspen and Jeremy’s Friday evening. We were the last to arrive as our flight was delayed. Thank goodness our late arrival didn’t affect anyone else from getting together for drinks, supper and catching up!
Jeremy and Aspen had been considering a long time what to do to make this birthday extra special and came up with hosting a ‘murder mystery’ theme. It’s one thing to have an idea, another to actually make it happen! Jeremy made some amazing props, sent out invitations with specific roles and details to set the scene of ‘intrigue’ in the 1920s. Everyone came dressed in evening wear of the time and actually stayed in character throughout the evening. Unbeknownst to most of us he had chosen five suspects who played their parts to the fullest. Aspen was the murder victim (of course!) - stabbed in the kitchen with a knife. The party was held at the Weller House, an historic home built in 1886, recently restored and converted into a guesthouse. The whole house was available to us for the evening’s adventure. While Aspen was being assaulted the rest of us were merrily drinking champagne up on the third floor ballroom. Then came the screams… We all rushed to the kitchen, witnessed the grizzly scene of Aspen on the floor. It was actually rather horrifying, fake blood and all! Clues had been placed around the house and garden outside. Once all were found we reconvened to vote on who we thought ‘did the deed’. It was the most unsuspecting ‘doctor’ - her confession was wonderfully dramatic!

I wish I’d taken some photos myself, but couldn’t manage a phone (no pockets in my dress) plus carry around my champagne glass! Soon, I hope, the lady in the silk pyjamas will send me some photos to share. Once this happens I’ll add them to this post…
